Cochabamba, Bolivia

Rotarians from Chippewa Falls, WI, and Cochabamba, Bolivia are teaming up on a second water project. We would like to invite you to join us!
We recently returned from a project planning trip to Sivingani—an immigrant neighborhood of 200 households located on the fast growing outskirts of Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Sivingani residents currently suffer from an unreliable and very expensive water supply. Poor water conditions result in a high infant mortality rate and leave little money for families to re-invest in education, health, and economic security.
We are working with the community to install a community-owned water system which will result in a cleaner, more stable, and more economical water supply. This is our second water project in this area and we have assembled a knowledgeable team of private businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to ensure this project is successful and sustainable.
To ensure our projects are sustainable, we follow the guidelines set forth by the Water and Sanitation Action Group (WASRAG) (www.wasrag.org/) as we develop a water project:
We are just getting started. We are looking for clubs to commit some funding to the project in their 2009-2010 budget. We have $8,000 raised thus far. Any additional amount is tremendously helpful because for each dollar we raise from local clubs, the district and RI contributes another $3.
